There was a very scary moment during Saturday’s playoff game in Nashville when Colorado Avalanche goalie Darcy Kuemper had the blade of an opponent’s stick come through his face mask.
The incident happened with just under a minute left in the first period when the Predators’ Ryan Johansen was battling with Colorado’s Nathan McKinnon for the puck in front of the net. Johansen’s stick accidentally came up, with the blade making its way between the bars of Kuemper’s goalie mask.
Kuemper, 32, was quickly attended to by the team trainer, before rushing off the ice.
Kuemper, a native of Saskatoon, Sask., was replaced in goal by Pavel Francouz, who remained in goal at the start of the second period.
More to come.
